Revolution

sorry for the slow updates. bet most of ya r busy studying anyways... anyway, been a pretty busy week starting with last sunday. this might take a while. bear with me.

Sunday

Went to airport to help train the new 6th batch of CYA's. Funny thing is i can rmbr almost everything that happened during th 5th batch training. starting to feel old liao. like those old ppl whose friend all died, then gotta go their funeral one after another. most of my batch left liao.

anyway training them was quite fun. the group i led was quite quiet. dunno y. Dennis was in my group btw. during lunch met kwee han who was at T1 BK to study with soon kee.

went to church after that.

Monday

Went for actual CYA duty today. since new batch not ready yet, it's only the seniors doing duty. All 3 of us guys. so took the time to get to know each other. Monday should b fun i think next time? bring on the gals. oh n the Temasek Poly CYA's got lotsa cb sia.

Tuesday

went to the appreciation dinner for the IMF volunteers at vivocity. 2nd time i was there. Vivocity pretty cool. like a marina square, but with much bigger walking space. the shops there r similary cool. but it's already getting crowded.

was damn hazy up there. they invited jamie yeo n sum other nut to host the show. Dennis wanted to take with her, so i went with him. but actually i dun really like her.

the prime minister came up n gav a speech. the Ngee Ann poly cheerleaders came out to strut their stuff....

oo btw there was no mention of mee siam mai ham. anyway since when mee siam got ham one?

Wednesday

after finishing school at 12, went to study with wq, merc n jas at Tamp KFC. got back only to realise everyone was out, and i didn't bring my keys out. damn frustrating. stuck outside for 2 hours.

Thursday

nothing

Friday

met with wq, soon kee, kwee han, elton n john to watch Death Note. played dota at simei before the show. got 2nd top kills. kwee han v. strong.

sorry. i no mood to post now.... listening to mrbrown show.

Life on the Silkroad

Random update

Been playing a lot of computer games lately since upgraded my com. Silkroad online is a MMORPG set in a mythical Chinese dynasty, but u can travel to India and the Middle East as well. Life starts out as most RPG games, whacking monsters to earn gold and items which can be bought and sold and traded with other players.

Along the way quests will be given to you by the NPC characters u meet along the way, and the 99% involve whacking monsters which is very tedious, and not really my fav kinda game. Upon reaching a certain level, players can start choosing to act as Traders, Hunters or Thieves. Traders load up goods from one city and travel a long distance to another city, to sell them for gold. Theives as u can probably guess, rob the traders while a hunters duty is to protect the traders. This system forms the core of gameplay in SRO (Silkroad Online).

It's not really my fav kinda game as i mentioned, but it's good caus my frens play it, n it's not that addictive so i can stop at anytime. Players in SRO are truly international coming from continents such as South america, australia, middle east , germany and other ulu ulu countries. which is a good and bad thing.

apart from SRO, i've been playing DotA daily, though not as hardcore as i was before. Think the skills of the 2nd generation dota players in my class have reached the same level as the 1st generation players le. i think games like DotA have the potential to become full cyber sports in future with teams and leagues.

Today (Sunday)

after church service at Suntec, had lunch with my mum at secret recipe, a little cafe downstairs.

mum brought me to Plaza Singapura, where she brought me a suprise v. belated birthday present, a pendent from SK jewellery. actually i dun mind getting late presents, so if ur still wondering if it's too late to giv me, buy me smth n relieve your burden.

Nah. i'm juz kiddin. i nev take my own b'day v. seriously.

she also wanted to get a pair of rings for her n my dad, but we couldn't figure out how big his figure was, so guess hav to go back.

finally bought a Jay Chou album that i've been looking for for bout 2 years le, 8th dimension. his 3rd album. finally my collection is complete.

right. back to school tml. mayb gonna start training for NAPFA liao.

The Mercedes Benz of Mp3 players

S'poreans have an obsession with brands. One brand in particular for mp3 players is the apple iPod.

There is an old joke about how Sporean's buy cars for the shell instead of the performance. For example, they would rather buy a big Merc with a small engine, rather than a more powerful Japanese car for a similar price and spec's. Brand conscious you see.

Similarly for the iPod, a good looking classy expensive mp3 player, the definitive mp3 player to be precise, but not exactly value for money. For one thing, compared to other brands, the iPod is pretty expensive for the amount of storage space it provides.

Secondly, it's programme iTunes, isn't exactly the most user friendly operating system it claims to be. Music isn't easily transferable from one music player to another.

Thirdly, it doesn't cut it in terms of functions either. Voice recorders, direct charging and radio playback must be bought in seperate modules, while other music players provide them in-built. Music formats fall far short of it's rival digital music players.

In a short four words "Not Value for Money". Still though, despite it's hefty price tag and relative lack of functions, the iPod still commands a massive following. The reason? branding. everyone wants it cause it's considered the hottest, most in, most classy. a.k.a for show. These people suffer from the iPod complex.

don't get me wrong. nothing wrong with getting an iPod. in fact, i wanted to get one myself. just that some people get it just for the brand. the iPod brand is big enough to get people to buy a Shuffle over something cheaper and with better specs. in that aspect, you gotta take ur hat off to Apple.

damn, i shoulda been an econs student.

Disclaimer: The following article was just an idea i thought about while i was sitting in the mrt. An similarities with real life mp3 players are purely coincidental. Oh, and i hope i didn't offend anyone. and don't sue me apple.

There and back again

Saturday

Sent my dad to the airport again. This time he headed to Dubai for 2 weeks before flying off to neighbouring Kuwait. umm, what to say. My mum was a bit sad after that for a while, as she always does... I guess for us, we quite used to it liao, will miss him of course, but we know will see him in a few months.

The strange thing is, whenever he comes back, it's him who brings us around Spore to eat and shop and all that. During normal everyday life, don't really find the effort to go places like Katong, Toa Payoh, East Coast etc... think i got mention this before.

anyway, when got home watched Korean drama till about 2.30pm. so dun hav to think bout him leaving. yeah.
